September 2011 – Apprentices certain they want to become lawyers

Two young lawyers from the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu, Sandor Elias and Anni Prants, participated in our firm’s apprenticeship programme this year. Partners Erki Vabamets and Taivo Ruus mentored them over a period of four weeks.

Attorney-at-law Erki Vabamets said that Anni is a very smart young lawyer – the first task he assigned her already showed that she can handle tasks beyond expectations. Given the goal Anni always found a way to achieve it and complete the task as required. Anni said that during her apprenticeship she was given assignments in the areas of litigation, transactions and general counselling, and she could also take part in meetings with clients and court sessions. She also acquired a lot of knowledge and experience and is now convinced that she definitely wants to become a practising lawyer.

Sandor Elias’s mentor, attorney-at-law Taivo Ruus, said that Sandor has set himself the clear goal of becoming an advocate and he also has the personal qualities required for the job. He solves complicated legal tasks with ease and defends his opinions with confidence. Sandor himself said that the apprenticeship certainly exceeded his expectations. The most surprising aspect for him was that in addition to doing the paperwork, he was also invited to work on solving complicated problems. He was also pleased that his opinion was considered and he could prove himself. Understanding the formal nuances of legal issues was the only thing he found difficult at first. All in all, Sandor believes that the month spent in our firm was very important for his professional development and he is now even more interested in becoming a lawyer.
