Fields of practise
Karmen Turk is an advocate with outstanding legal expertise in intellectual property, media, consumer, international and EU trade law. In cooperation with the office’s attorneys Karmen participates in resolving private law issues arising from the everyday economic activities of clients.
Professional experience
Karmen joined Law Firm Tamme & Otsmann in 2009. She has previous work experience in the public sector (Estonian Public Broadcasting) as well as in various private companies.
Education
Karmen graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu in 2004. In addition to the University of Tartu, she has obtained a research master’s degree from the University of Helsinki. Since 2010 Karmen has been pursuing doctoral studies in the University of Tartu, focusing on the issues of regulation of the liability of information society service intermediaries.
Languages
Karmen’s native language is Estonian and she is also fluent in English. Karmen is also able to communicate in Russian and French.
Social activities and hobbies
Karmen participates in the work of various international NGOs engaged in protecting human rights, notably free Internet and the freedom of press. For instance, Karmen is a member of the Dynamic Coalition of Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media on the Internet of the UN Internet Governance Forum and participates in drafting the Charter of Human Rights and Principles for the Internet.
Karmen’s hobbies include snowboarding, kite surfing, SCUBA diving and photography.
